SHAUN ALEXANDER SENTENCED IN ABERDEEN FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT AT PROHIBITION NIGHTCLUB
A 26-year-old man named Shaun Alexander has been legally mandated to register as a sex offender following his conviction for sexually assaulting two women during a night out at the Prohibition nightclub located on Langstane Place in Aberdeen. The incident, which occurred earlier this year in April, led to Alexander appearing before Aberdeen Sheriff Court to face the charges he had admitted to.
Details of the case reveal that Alexander’s actions involved inappropriate physical contact with two women.
He was found to have touched one woman’s bottom and, in a separate incident, lifted the skirt of another woman, exposing her underwear and buttocks.
The assault escalated when he slapped one of the women on her buttocks.
These actions took place in a public setting within the nightclub, raising concerns about the safety and dignity of the victims involved.
During the court proceedings, Alexander’s solicitor, Debbie Ginniver, explained that her client was heavily intoxicated at the time of the offenses.
While she acknowledged that intoxication is not an acceptable excuse for such behavior, she emphasized that Alexander’s state of drunkenness contributed to his actions.
The court was informed that these offenses occurred while Alexander was under the influence of alcohol, which impaired his judgment and conduct.
The court heard that Alexander approached the two women, engaging in inappropriate touching and caressing one of them’s bottom.
He then succeeded in lifting the skirt of another woman, which resulted in her underwear and buttocks being exposed.
Following this, he slapped her on the buttocks, an act that was deemed serious and unacceptable.
Despite the gravity of the offenses, the court considered Alexander’s age and the fact that this was his first conviction, which influenced the sentencing decision.
In her judgment, Sheriff Rhona Wark acknowledged the seriousness of the crimes but also recognized that Alexander was a first-time offender.
She noted his remorse and the fact that he has taken responsibility for his actions.
As an alternative to imprisonment, the court ordered Alexander to complete 80 hours of unpaid community work through a community payback order.
Additionally, he was placed on the sex offenders register for a period of one year.
The court’s decision reflected a balance between punishing the misconduct and recognizing the potential for rehabilitation, given the circumstances and Alexander’s remorse.
This case underscores the importance of accountability and the legal consequences of inappropriate conduct in public venues.
The incident at the Prohibition nightclub in Aberdeen serves as a reminder of the serious repercussions that can follow such behavior, even when committed by a first-time offender.
The court’s ruling aims to reinforce societal standards and protect individuals from sexual misconduct in social settings.
