ABERDEEN MAN SENTENCED TO 30 MONTHS FOR MULTIPLE DOMESTIC VIOLENCE INCIDENTS
A woman who was pregnant and terrified made an urgent call for help, pleading "help me, mum, help me," as her violent partner, Sean Hanratty, began to wrap a cord around her neck. The 29-year-old Hanratty was highly emotional in court as his many violent acts against his partner were read aloud.
His offences, fueled by alcohol and drugs, included assaulting her in front of their children, punching her, and forcibly pulling out a clump of her hair.
During one episode, he wrapped a cord around her neck while threatening to strangle her, saying, “I’m going to strangle the life out of you,” but she managed to free herself.
His solicitor described his life as being “in total disarray” at the time.
Despite this, the court noted his history of domestic violence and sentenced him to over two years in prison, specifically 30 months, for the offences.
Additionally, in a separate incident, Hanratty accused a neighbor of being a sex offender, went into a drunken rage in the flat, and assaulted his partner again, including slapping her and hitting her with objects, then wrapping a cable around her neck and threatening her life, all while she was pregnant.
The court found Hanratty guilty of threatening and abusive behaviour and assault, taking into account his prior history and the repeated violence.
His defense reflected that alcohol and drugs contributed to his behavior and that he was distressed by his actions.
The sheriff emphasized his repeated assaults on the same victim and his history of domestic offending and sentenced him to 30 months in prison.
