OFFENDER CONVICTED OF SAVAGE ASSAULT ON PARTNER SHOWS LACK OF REMORSE
A man named Scott Baxter, aged 28, has been found guilty of a brutal assault on his former partner. The court heard that during the attack, Baxter repeatedly grabbed the woman, threw her to the ground, and punched and kicked her on the head and body.
Additionally, he pinned her down, squeezed her neck to restrict her breathing, and even stamped on her, all of which caused severe injury and permanent impairment.
Baxter was also convicted of threatening and abusive behavior during the incident that took place on April 28, 2021, at an address in New Pitsligo.
Despite denying the charges, his own solicitor, Gail Goodfellow, admitted that Baxter showed little or no remorse and had difficulty accepting responsibility.
The court was told that the incident was not pre-planned, and Baxter had gone to see his child at the victim's home with good intentions.
The impact on children who witnessed the assault was acknowledged, as they were described as being 'clearly upset' and still affected by what happened.
Sheriff Ian Wallace sentenced Baxter to be supervised for two years, to complete the Caledonian Programme for domestic offenders, and also imposed a 250-hour unpaid work order, a 10-month curfew, and a five-year non-harassment order.
The sentence was considered an alternative to prison.
Baxter left court embracing and kissing his new partner, who was present during the proceedings.
