April 2011 Care worker is jailed for child porn offences A CARE home worker has been jailed for four months after admitting possessing pornographic images of children. Samuel David, 36, formerly of Douglas Road, Poole, pleaded guilty to 18 counts of downloading indecent images of children on his computer in 2006 and 2007. Prosecuting at Bournemouth Crown Court, Carolyn Branford-Wood said the offences had come to light after David confided in a female work colleague in July 2009. “He told her he was disgusted with himself and wanted help. He described himself as really evil and said he was a paedophile who should keep away from children, parks, beaches and barbecues.” His concerned colleague told her manager about their conversation and the police were alerted. During a search of his bedroom various items, including computer equipment, were seized. In David’s defence, the court was told that there had been three million images on his home computer, but only a small number featured indecent images of children. He had used the internet to search for legal gay pornography and all the downloading had happened in Portugal. It was said that since his arrest, his life had “come crashing down.” David lost his job and moved back to live with his parents in Portugal. A man of previous good character, he had suffered anxiety panic attacks and received psychiatric help. Sentencing David, Recorder Alistair Malcolm QC told him: “Possession of these photographs helps the exploitation of children.” David was banned from working or living with children and using the internet to access or download indecent images of children.
