Clive Dean

Poole Sexual Abuser

December 2009 Poole man had largest collection of child pornography images found in Dorset DETECTIVES uncovered the largest collection of child pornography images ever seized in Dorset after interrogating a Poole man’s home computer. Accounts clerk Clive Dean, 53, admitted 19 charges of making indecent photographs involving more than 57,000 images, some of children as young as six. Bournemouth Crown Court heard how Dean, a married father-of-four, had been arrested in February 2008 after Dorset police received information from the Metropolitan force. When officers from Dorset’s hi-tech crime unit examined Dean’s computer they found that between December 2005 and January 2008 he had downloaded four million images; 57,004 were indecent photographs of children. In Dean’s defence, Robert Griffiths said: “Like a lot of people once he started he couldn’t stop. Viewing this sort of material became an addiction; spiralling out of control.” “It happened at home, while his family were in residence, and without them knowing what he was up to. He had been made redundant and had a lot more time on his hands. He is a man of previous good character. “Mr Dean is deeply ashamed of what he has done and shown a willingness to change his behaviour. The sheer shame of being arrested and appearing in a public courtroom is very considerable punishment indeed.” Mr Griffiths handed the judge a letter from Dean’s wife, adding: “She is concerned about him. They still have a successful relationship and marriage.” Jailing Dean for three months, Judge John Harrow told him: “These are serious matters. You must realise that people like you are funding a dreadful industry which exploits young children. Some of the images were of children aged about six. “You are a father of children so you should understand the exploitation that must take place to produce these photographs.” Dean was banned from working with children and placed on the sex offenders’ register. Speaking after the case, investigating officer DC James Mullen said: “This was the largest number of indecent images that Dorset police has ever dealt with in one single case. “I hope this sends out a message that this sort of disgraceful behaviour will not be tolerated.”
