ROSS CAMPBELL AND SHOCKING SEX ATTACKS IN ABERDEEN
The professional career of a police officer was shattered after he confessed to engaging in disturbing sexual misconduct involving five female colleagues.Ross Campbell, aged 44, was found to have repeatedly assaulted his fellow officers during nights filled with alcohol and celebration in Aberdeen.
His actions have now led to his inclusion on the sex offenders register, marking a significant fall from grace.
The allegations emerged during a court hearing, where the prosecution detailed a series of vile incidents perpetrated by Campbell.
The court heard that the accused, who was serving as a temporary sergeant at the time, targeted female police constables, some of whom reported directly to him.
Many of the victims initially hesitated to come forward, likely due to the intimidating environment within the police force and fear of repercussions.
It was only after one victim bravely approached an investigating officer that others were encouraged to share their experiences.
One notable incident took place in September 2019 during a night out in Aberdeen’s city center, which was organized in celebration of Campbell’s birthday.
Prosecutor Alan Townsend described the troubling encounter, stating, "The complainer felt a slap on her buttocks, and the accused merely laughed in response.
He continued to slap her buttocks two or three more times without her consent." This incident highlighted the inappropriate behavior and abuse of authority that characterized Campbell’s conduct.
Further allegations revealed that during a drunken night outing in Dundee, Campbell sexually assaulted a female officer multiple times.
Over the course of one evening, he groped her on five separate occasions, and his misconduct did not end there.
On their journey home by train, he struck again, indicating a pattern of predatory behavior fueled by alcohol.
In one chilling correspondence, Campbell was warned by a colleague that rumors about him being overly handsy were spreading among the force.
His response, contained in a message, was casual yet revealing: "Okay thanks bud.
Was pretty wasted.
Feel like sh** hearing this.
I shouldn’t have put myself in that position FFS." This reply suggests an awareness of his inappropriate actions and a lack of remorse at the time.
The court also learned about an incident in February 2020, when Campbell was accused of initiating unwanted physical contact with a female officer after sensing she was giving him signals.
He reportedly fondled her privately through her clothing in a bar, and afterward, he attempted to minimize the severity of his behavior in a subsequent message.
He apologized, stating, "Sorry if I was bugging you.
Usual shambles of a police night out," attempting to downplay his misconduct.
The victim, disclosing her ordeal, later reported the incident to the police, which led to Campbell’s arrest at Police Scotland’s Aberdeen headquarters.
The case was set for trial, but Campbell’s guilty pleas to the charges of sexual assault meant that he avoided a lengthy court process.
He was also cleared of three other separate incidents.
Throughout proceedings, it was noted that some colleagues described Campbell as a polite and kind individual when sober, contrasting sharply with his conduct under the influence.
His defense solicitor, Gareth Jones, issued an apology on Campbell’s behalf, stating, "Mr.
Campbell offers an unreserved apology to all of the complainants in this case." Despite this, his actions have left a lasting stain on his reputation.
Sentencing was deferred until next month by Sheriff Graham Buchanan as the court considers the case details.
Meanwhile, police authorities remain attentive to the outcome, with Superintendent Lorna Ferguson of Police Scotland’s Professional Standards Department affirming the seriousness of the matter.
She explained that the case will be referred to the Deputy Chief Constable for Professionalism, Digital and Transformation to determine appropriate disciplinary measures according to the Police Service of Scotland (Conduct) Regulations 2014.
