December 2012 Mental health nurse who exposed himself to young girl struck off Sunnyside Royal: Mr Morrison worked at the facility which closed last year A mental health nurse convicted of exposing himself to a young girl has been struck off. Robert Morrison was convicted of lewd, indecent and libidinous practices and behaviour towards the teenager earlier this year. The Nursing and Midwifery Council stated in its decision this week after Mr Morrison had been convicted of the sexual offences at Arbroath Sheriff Court earlier this year, resulting in a three-year probation order and 240 community service. In its findings, the council’s conduct and competence committee stated that Mr Morrison had first been introduced to the girl, who was around 13 at the time, when she attended a martial arts class he taught. He was found to have, on various occasions between September 2001 and August 2008, exposed himself to the young girl, as well as taking indecent photographs of the youngster in her bedroom in August 2006. This week, the council found that the mental health nurse who was previously employed by NHS Tayside at Sunnyside Royal Hospital in Montrose, had brought his profession into disrepute through the offences. In its findings, the panel stated that Mr Morrison had “kept the camera with the illicit images of [the young girl] on it up until the time of his arrest some three years after”. It added that there was an “absence of any evidence of insight, or of the expression of regret or apology” from Mr Morrison over the offence. It continued: “The panel notes that Mr Morrison has never acknowledged either the seriousness of his behaviour or how his actions have brought the reputation of the profession into disrepute. “The panel has taken a very serious view of Mr Morrison’s convictions. As already noted the convictions for sexual offences on vulnerable, young girls are aggravating factors in this case. The panel does not consider that the behaviour of Mr Morrison can be reconciled with that of a practising member of the nursing profession, and in a position of trust.” In conclusion, the committee decided to remove Mr Morrison from the nursing register as his “convictions are so serious that they are fundamentally incompatible” with continuing in the profession.
