ADAM MORAWSKI CAUGHT WITH TWO DAYS OF CHILD INDECENT VIDEOS IN MONTROSE
In June 2016, a disturbing case emerged involving Adam Robert Morawski, a 41-year-old resident of New Wynd, Montrose, who was found in possession of an extensive collection of indecent images and videos of children. The police investigation revealed that Morawski had accumulated a staggering total of 15,226 indecent photographs and 13,314 videos over a period spanning from April 20, 2013, to June 22, 2015.Authorities received confidential information indicating that indecent images of children had been downloaded onto a device linked to Morawski’s residence. This tip-off prompted a thorough search of his electronic devices, which included a laptop, a work laptop, a tablet, a smartphone, and numerous external hard drives. During questioning, Morawski admitted that he had downloaded the material, claiming that he found the images on the internet while searching for movies. He stated, “It is possible. I found pictures on the internet. They weren’t naked children but I turned off straight away. I found some pictures when I was looking for movies.”
Police reports detailed that Morawski’s internet history contained search terms commonly associated with child indecent images. The investigation uncovered that he had visited multiple web pages with names suggesting content related to child exploitation. Additionally, some of the indecent images were discovered within his recycle bin, and others were stored in various files on his devices.
The court heard that Morawski explained he had downloaded a zip file while searching for 3D movies. Upon opening the file, he realized it contained illegal content and attempted to delete it. However, he claimed the file was too large to remove easily. He also stated that he had only accessed the indecent images on two occasions and was unable to provide specific creation dates for the images. The material was categorized into different severity levels: 1,170 images in the most serious category, 1,187 in category B, and the remaining 12,869 in category C. The videos followed a similar pattern, with 998 in Category A, 1,103 in Category B, and a significant 11,213 in Category C, with a total running time of over two days and one hour.
Further analysis revealed that the collection included images and videos with explicit content involving children, with the most serious material being classified under the highest categories. The police also recovered search terms and visited web pages that indicated a focus on indecent content involving minors.
During the court proceedings at Forfar Sheriff Court, Morawski’s defense solicitor, Ian Flynn, informed the judge, Sheriff Pino di Emidio, that he would submit a plea in mitigation once social work reports had been prepared. The court decided to defer sentencing until July 20, 2016, and continued Morawski’s bail. In the meantime, he was placed on the sex offenders’ register and ordered to surrender his passport and any other forms of photo identification that could facilitate international travel.
Morawski’s case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat the distribution and possession of illegal child exploitation material, emphasizing the serious legal consequences faced by those found guilty of such offenses.
