ROBERT GARDEN'S SHOCKING CRIMES IN ABERDEEN: VILE RAPE AND ASSAULT SENTENCE
In April 2021, a man named Robert Garden from Aberdeen was handed a lengthy prison sentence after being convicted of multiple heinous sexual offences. The court found him guilty of four counts of rape, along with additional charges of sexual assault and assault causing injury, following a rigorous trial in the High Court of Aberdeen.
Garden, aged 33 at the time of sentencing, was described by the judge as a vicious offender who subjected his victims to degrading and humiliating treatment.
The crimes spanned over a period from 2011 to 2017, with incidents occurring at various addresses within Aberdeen and the surrounding Aberdeenshire area.
One of the most disturbing aspects of the case involved Garden headbutting one of his victims, striking her repeatedly with his fists, and even pouring food over her in a manner that was both humiliating and degrading.
The court also heard that he pushed a cable against her neck and issued threats to kill her, actions that demonstrated a pattern of violent and controlling behavior.
Among the rape charges, one involved Garden taking advantage of a woman while she was intoxicated, rendering her unable to give or withhold consent.
Another incident saw him restraining a victim and compressing her throat with his hand, actions that inflicted serious harm and fear.
During the sentencing hearing, Judge Graham Buchanan addressed Garden directly, emphasizing the severity of his crimes.
He stated, “You were convicted by the jury of four charges of rape, one of sexual assault, and one of assault.
These crimes were committed against two women.
Your behaviour towards them was truly degrading and humiliating.” The judge further condemned Garden’s continued denial of guilt and lack of remorse, highlighting the dangerous nature of his actions.
“It’s clear that such is the gravity of the offences before the court, there is no alternative to the imposition of a very substantial custodial sentence.
You present a high risk of causing serious harm from which it is necessary to protect the public,” he said.
In light of the seriousness of the offences, Garden was sentenced to an extended term of 16 years, comprising 13 years of imprisonment followed by an additional three years on license and under supervision.
The court also ordered that Garden, who is currently held at HMP Grampian, be subject to indefinite notification requirements under the Sexual Offences Act.
Furthermore, a non-harassment order was issued to prevent any contact with his victims for an indefinite period, aiming to protect them from further harm.
