ROBERT CHRISTIE, FORMER SCOTS GUARD AND POLICE OFFICER, JAILED IN EDINBURGH FOR SEXUAL ABUSE IN ABERDEEN
In August 1997, Robert Christie, a 52-year-old former Scots Guard who had served with the Grampian police for 21 years, was sentenced to five years in prison after admitting to a sequence of sexual offenses against a young girl.
During the hearing at the High Court in Edinburgh, Lord Dawson told Christie that he had to be sent to prison in the interests of the public, stating, "He was a police officer with over two decades of service, yet he committed these terrible crimes." Christie pleaded guilty to sexually abusing the girl at addresses in Aberdeen, with the first incident occurring in 1976 when she was 13 years old.
His abuse continued over a span of four years, comprising a disturbing catalogue of sexual offenses.
His offending only came to light many years later, after the victim reached adulthood and confided in a man she trusted.
Her boyfriend became increasingly worried as she suffered from nightmares and engaged in self-mutilation, prompting her to disclose her experiences.
