ABERDEEN MAN JAILED FOR SEX ASSAULT AFTER STALKING VICTIM
A married man from Cove, Aberdeen, Robert Angus, aged 52, has been sentenced for a serious sexual assault committed after he followed a woman home from a nightclub.
Angus stalked the woman late at night as she left Babylon and walked onto Ashvale Place.
He then tackled her to the ground, straddled her, and sexually assaulted her while she screamed for help.
The victim recorded audio of her screams during the attack.
Angus was seen to pause and follow the woman, then attack her physically and sexually, causing her to land on her back on the street.
The court heard that Angus, who previously admitted to sexual assault, led a seemingly crime-free life and is remorseful.
He was experiencing a midlife crisis and was on medication for depression at the time of the offence.
The sheriff judged the assault to be a very serious crime and sentenced Angus to a six-and-a-half-year extended sentence, comprising four and a half years in jail and two years on license, plus a non-harassment order and indefinite sex offender registration.
The court emphasized the impact on the victim, who suffered significant psychological consequences.
Sheriff Graham Buchanan stated that this was a thoroughly unpleasant crime and that the sentence is appropriate considering its severity.
