ROBERT ANDERSON'S BRUTAL ABUSE IN ABERDEEN: VICTIM SUFFERS SEVERE INJURIES OVER SIX YEARS
A man named Robert Anderson, aged 42, has been convicted at Aberdeen Sheriff Court for subjecting his former partner to a prolonged and vicious campaign of domestic violence spanning nearly seven years. The court heard that Anderson repeatedly assaulted his partner at three different addresses within Aberdeen, inflicting injuries that ranged from large, alarming bruises to whiplash and concussion.
His violent behavior was not isolated but persisted over a significant period, with the abuse occurring between August 1, 2001, and November 19, 2007.
During the trial, it was revealed that Anderson engaged in physically aggressive acts that left his partner with serious injuries.
Among these acts, he placed a plastic bag over her head, held it there in a manner that caused her distress, and left boot marks on her neck, indicating a pattern of severe violence.
One particularly disturbing incident in 2003 involved Anderson pushing his partner to the ground and sitting on her neck, which caused her to struggle for breath.
He also bit her, resulting in a large lump on her head, and once dragged her into a bathroom, where she hit her head on the tiles.
A medical examination later confirmed that she had suffered a concussion from this assault.
The victim, who was pregnant during some of these incidents, reported that Anderson punched, kicked, and even threatened to kill her, creating an environment of constant fear and danger.
Her testimony detailed how her life was overshadowed by the threat of violence, and she feared for her safety on numerous occasions.
Despite the severity of these allegations and the clear evidence of sustained abuse, Anderson, who now resides in Fife, was not sentenced to prison.
Instead, he received a sentence of two years' probation.
The court also mandated that he participate in a two-year domestic abuse intervention program and complete 180 hours of unpaid community work.
In delivering the verdict, the judge took into account Anderson’s background, noting that he had maintained a stable life and steady employment following the end of the relationship.
The judge emphasized that the abusive conduct was specific to that relationship and that imposing a custodial sentence would have a significant and potentially damaging impact on Anderson’s family.
The decision underscores the complex considerations courts often face when balancing justice for victims with the broader implications for offenders and their families.
