RIAN HOOD AND HIS BRUTAL CRIMES IN GLASGOW
Rian Hood, a 31-year-old man from Glasgow, was recently found guilty of a series of appalling crimes that involved raping and physically abusing four women over an extended period. The high-profile case unraveled at the High Court in Elgin, where Hood was convicted after a detailed trial this month.
As the verdict was delivered, Hood was visibly emotional, weeping uncontrollably like a child, as he was remanded into custody until sentencing.
The sentencing hearing revealed the full extent of Hood’s heinous actions, which included charges of rape, abduction, and assault that posed serious threats to the victims' safety and well-being.
His crimes have prompted widespread calls for harsher penalties for men who exert control and inflict terror upon their partners.
The severity of his misconduct and the brutal nature of his crimes have left a deep scar on the victims, particularly one woman who courageously spoke out to share her ordeal.
One of the victims, Jade Doolan, delivered a heartfelt account of her 18-month abusive relationship with Hood.
She recounted how his behavior deteriorated over time, especially after he started abusing substances such as cocaine and developing an addiction to gambling.
Initially, Hood appeared to be a caring partner, but that illusion was shattered when she discovered he had lost his job in the summer of 2018—a fact he desperately tried to conceal.
His dependency issues became evident as he began to control her via constant surveillance, tracking her location through her phone and manipulating her psychologically.
Jade described how Hood’s once charming persona transformed into a violent and controlling figure.
He would accuse her of infidelity, demand her phone’s real-time location when they were apart, and make her feel worthless.
He was often preoccupied with drinking, engaging in online gambling, or gaming on his computer—once even breaking his own PC after losing a wager.
Her account vividly paints the picture of a woman living in constant fear.
The violence escalated early in their relationship, with the first assault occurring in September 2018.
Jade recounted being ejected from their home while only dressed in her underwear, left in the cold as Hood screamed and destroyed household items in a fit of rage.
She described him physically dragging her out of the house, calling her degrading names, and locking her outside in a state of distress.
Following this incident, Jade felt she was walking on eggshells, fearing every move she made, especially as Hood would routinely check her social media accounts on his way to work, suspicious of her interactions.
Seeking safety, Jade eventually fled to a women’s refuge to escape Hood’s relentless abusive behavior.
The violence intensified on Christmas Eve in 2019, when Hood assaulted her savagely, an attack so severe that it necessitated police intervention.
These recent events contributed to his eventual arrest and subsequent conviction.
During the trial, it was revealed that Hood was responsible for multiple offenses against women, all linked to the control and abuse during their relationships.
In October 2022, he was convicted on ten charges related to these acts.
His sentencing was handed down at Glasgow’s High Court, where he was sentenced to seven years and six months in prison.
Additionally, he will serve a three-year extended supervision period following his release, during which he will be closely monitored.
Furthermore, Hood’s name has been added to the sex offenders register, a measure designed to keep communities safe.
He is also subject to Non-Harassment Orders that prohibit any contact with all four victims for an indefinite period, aiming to prevent further harm and ensure justice for those affected by his actions.
One of the victims, Jade Doolan, who is currently undergoing counseling to process her trauma, expressed her relief at the verdict.
She told how Hood’s tears after his conviction brought some sense of closure, saying, “I am tortured every day by what he did but I’m pleased he’s been found guilty and I hope the courts punish him harshly for the women he has harmed.” She also revealed that another victim had witnessed Hood crying as he was taken away in court and stated, “I wasn’t surprised.
I always knew he would react like that.
It’s called justice.”
