Piotr Skut

Glasgow Sexual Abuser

June 2011 Piotr Skut jailed for ‘horror’ toddler assault A man who carried out a “horror” sex attack on a toddler inflicting serious injury on the victim has been jailed for eight years. A judge told Piotr Skut: “The circumstances of the offence are simply incomprehensible.” The two-year-old girl needed extensive surgery after the assault with one doctor describing her injuries as “the most horrific ever seen”. Skut, 29, carried out the attack at his home in Glasgow last April. He was supposedly caring for the toddler at the time. He denied committing the sexual assault, but was convicted following a trial in May. At the High Court in Edinburgh, Judge Lady Dorrian told the former bricklayer: “This was a serious sexual assault on a two-year-old who suffered severe injury as a result.” The judge said she had decided to impose an extended sentence on him for the protection of the public and ordered he be kept under supervision for a further four years. Skut, formerly of Strathmartine Road in Dundee, claimed the child was injured in a fall against a stool, but DNA linked him to the offence. Abuse video He was looking after the child at his flat in Glasgow’s Townhead area while her mother went shopping, but she received a phone call from him telling her to hurry home as her daughter was bleeding. The mother-of-two said that there were no problems with her daughter before she left the house. The toddler was taken to the city’s Royal Hospital for Sick Children where she underwent surgery. The jury at Skut’s trial heard that he carried out the attack weeks after downloading a video clip of similar abuse. The Polish national followed proceedings through an interpreter as he was sentenced. Defence counsel Tony Graham said despite the crime Skut had been assessed as posing a medium risk of reoffending. He said the offence would prompt “proper revulsion” in any decent-minded individual. Skut was also placed on the sex offenders register.
