PIOTR SKUT'S HORRIFIC CHILD ABUSE IN GLASGOW: JAIL SENTENCE FOR TODDLER ATTACK
In a deeply disturbing case that has shocked the community in Glasgow, Piotr Skut, a 29-year-old man, has been sentenced to eight years in prison for a brutal sexual assault on a two-year-old girl.The assault, which took place at Skut's residence in Glasgow's Townhead area last April, resulted in severe injuries to the young victim, requiring extensive surgical intervention.
During the trial at the High Court in Edinburgh, Judge Lady Dorrian described the circumstances surrounding the offence as 'simply incomprehensible,' emphasizing the heinous nature of the crime.
The judge highlighted that the injuries inflicted on the toddler were among the most horrific ever seen by medical professionals, with one doctor explicitly describing her injuries as 'the most horrific ever seen.' Skut, who was previously residing on Strathmartine Road in Dundee, was responsible for caring for the child at the time of the attack.
Despite his denial of any sexual assault, DNA evidence conclusively linked him to the crime.
The court heard that Skut had downloaded a video clip depicting similar abuse just weeks before the attack, raising further concerns about his motives and mental state.
At the time of the incident, Skut was looking after the young girl while her mother was out shopping.
The mother received an urgent phone call from Skut, instructing her to return home quickly because her daughter was bleeding.
She stated that there had been no issues or signs of injury before she left the house, making the subsequent injuries even more shocking.
The injured toddler was promptly taken to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Glasgow, where she underwent emergency surgery to treat her injuries.
Medical professionals described her condition as critical, and her injuries were deemed to be among the most severe they had encountered.
Throughout the trial, Skut was observed to follow proceedings through an interpreter, indicating his Polish nationality.
The jury found him guilty of the sexual assault, and he was subsequently sentenced by Judge Lady Dorrian.
In addition to his prison term, Skut was ordered to be placed on the sex offenders register and to serve an extended period of supervision for four years, aimed at protecting the public from any potential reoffending.
During sentencing, defence counsel Tony Graham acknowledged the gravity of the crime but noted that Skut had been assessed as posing a medium risk of reoffending.
He emphasized that the offence would evoke 'proper revulsion' in any decent-minded individual, underscoring the severity of the case and the need for strict measures to prevent future harm.
