PHILLIP NUTT AND HIS SHOCKING CHILD ABUSE ACTS IN BRISTOL AND CORNWALL
In a case that highlights the disturbing activities of a convicted offender, Phillip Nutt, a former employee of the Ministry of Defence, has been linked to heinous crimes involving child abuse materials and illegal activity across multiple locations in the United Kingdom.Nutt, who is 53 years old and resided in Bristol, used his technical expertise to access and possess a disturbing collection of child exploitation images and videos.
His activities came to light after police investigations uncovered his online behavior and physical presence at a holiday property in Cornwall where he was later arrested.
The case reveals that Nutt expressed displeasure on dark web chat rooms, specifically on a platform called ‘PedoPub,’ that the enforced lockdown measures prevented him from walking past schools on his way to work, which he admitted was a missed opportunity for him.
During a chat, he revealed how he tried to deceive others by hiding his illicit content behind secure and disguised storage systems.
Nutt claimed he used 'false camera storage,' which displayed normal photos of ordinary people, while concealing the disturbing material he stored for himself.
Further investigation revealed that Nutt used various digital methods to hide his activities.
His devices contained nearly 300 indecent images and videos, which he left on his personal phones and computers.
Authorities also discovered cloud-based accounts registered overseas that hosted a staggering 18,641 files organized into 445 folders.
Of particular concern was a folder labeled ‘Incest,’ which contained hundreds of illegal videos, some categorized as the most severe, depicting the abuse and exploitation of very young children, including babies.
The police reports indicated that some of these videos lasted up to two hours and showcased acts of torture and rape, highlighting the egregious nature of Nutt’s offenses.
Digital forensic analysis uncovered that Nutt frequently accessed the dark web and had taken elaborate steps to conceal his activity, including setting up a secure image storage app disguised as a calculator application on his device.
He was cautious to cover his tracks to avoid detection, describing a moment of alarm when images accidentally transferred onto his main hard drive, potentially exposing his activity.
Despite his efforts to conceal his deeds, law enforcement officials identified and apprehended him at his holiday residence in Cornwall last year.
Following his arrest, Nutt was brought before Bristol Crown Court where he pleaded guilty to charges of possessing, creating, and distributing indecent images.
He was subsequently sentenced to 16 months in custody, a sentencing which reflects the seriousness of his crimes.
Derek Evans, a senior investigating officer with the National Crime Agency, emphasized the use of advanced techniques by Nutt to hide his illicit activities.
He stated: “The conviction of Nutt serves as a warning to all - that we will work with partners across the globe to safeguard children and bring offenders before the court.
This investigation identified the horrendous rape of babies and very young children, which was being distributed by Nutt, who attempted to conceal his methods through sophisticated means and his knowledge of IT systems.
He added: “For as long as the demand for this material remains in depraved people like Nutt, it will continue to be supplied.
This investigation has broken part of that cycle and the NCA have succeeded in disrupting someone who posed a significant threat to children.”
