November 2012 – Currently living in Villegly, France April 2005 Ex-magistrate is jailed over porn A magistrate has gone to prison for downloading child pornography. Geoffrey Botley admitted 12 offences of making indecent photos between October 2001 and December 2004. The 52-year-old was jailed at North Avon Magistrates’ Court for six months and ordered to register as a sex offender for seven years. The court heard he had more than 240 pornographic images and files on his computer or saved on CDs at his home in the Bitton area of Bristol. Serious category The court heard Botley had paid $29.95 (£15) to access a website. Prosecutor Huw Rogers said police officers were given information by US-based officers and searched Botley’s home seizing a laptop computer and CDs. Mr Rogers said: “These were examined by the hi-tech crime unit who found a number of indecent images.” The court heard two of the images fell into the most serious category. Botley resigned as a magistrate in Bristol within days of the police raid, the court heard.
