PETER ASHWELL SENTENCED TO 16 YEARS FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES AGAINST CHILDREN IN DONCASTER
In March 2016, Peter Eric Ashwell, 33, of Beech Road, Skellow, was sentenced to 16 years in prison after being convicted of multiple child sex offences linked to his abuse of young girls in Doncaster.
Ashwell was found guilty at an earlier hearing of two counts of rape, four counts of sexual assault, and three counts of sexual activity in the presence of a child.
The charges stem from incidents involving two girls from the Doncaster area, who came forward in October the previous year to report the abuse.
Detective Constable Laura Batterham commented on the case, saying, "The significant sentence handed to Ashwell reflects the gravity of his despicable crimes." She added, "He continued to deny his guilt, forcing his victims through the ordeal of reliving and retelling their horrific experiences in court." The victims, both under 13 years old, demonstrated remarkable bravery throughout the investigation.
Batterham expressed hope that the sentencing would help them begin to move forward, stating, "I hope yesterday’s result helps them in some small way to move forward, knowing that this man can harm them no more."
