DAVID SCHOLEY BUSTED IN BENTLEY AND DONCASTER FOR REPEATED SEX OFFENCE ORDER BREACHES
In July 2009, David Scholey, a known sex offender residing in Doncaster, was sentenced to serve 16 weeks in prison after being found guilty of deliberately violating a court-imposed sexual offences prevention order on six separate occasions.The breaches included an incident on April 23, when Scholey, then 23 years old, was caught having unsupervised access to a young boy, directly contravening the restrictions placed upon him.
Scholey, who lives on Christ Church Road in Doncaster, admitted to breaching the order, which was designed to prevent him from having any contact with minors.
The magistrates at Doncaster court described his actions as a 'blatant' violation of the court’s directives, leading to the custodial sentence.
The court emphasized the importance of strict enforcement of such orders to protect children and uphold public safety.
Earlier, in October 2008, Scholey had already been sentenced to 18 months in prison after pleading guilty to four separate breaches of a Sexual Offences Prevention Order.
This order was initially imposed after Scholey was convicted of molesting a four-year-old girl when he was a teenager in 2000.
The order was meant to be indefinite, barring him from any contact with children under 16.
Despite these restrictions, Scholey’s conduct continued to raise concerns.
Shortly after moving into a new flat in Bentley, he was befriended by a fellow tenant who had a two-year-old daughter.
The child's father allowed Scholey to babysit the toddler and to pick her up from nursery on several occasions.
However, police investigations revealed that Scholey’s interactions with children persisted beyond these incidents, including befriending an 11-year-old boy and being paid £15 to give him after-school meals until his father returned home.
Further inquiries uncovered that Scholey had also been riding BMX bikes with a 14-year-old boy, inviting him back to his flat to smoke cannabis.
These activities, along with the breaches of the court order, underscored the ongoing risk Scholey posed to children in the Bentley and Doncaster areas.
During the court proceedings, defense lawyer Ian Groome stated that there was no evidence of any sexual misconduct involving the children Scholey interacted with.
He emphasized that Scholey was a young man with a youthful outlook who understood the seriousness of his court orders but maintained that he had not caused harm to any minors.
Judge Graham Robinson, presiding over the case, condemned Scholey’s repeated breaches, describing them as 'blatant' and underscoring the necessity of a custodial sentence.
The judge highlighted that such measures serve to demonstrate the courts’ firm stance against violations of court orders, reinforcing the message that breaches will be met with strict penalties to safeguard the community.
