November 2009 Jail for convicted sex offender who molested girl, 9 A convicted sex offender who molested a nine-year-old girl has been jailed for four years, with an extended four years on licence. Paul Jones climbed into the terrified youngster’s bed and pressed himself against her, Bristol Crown Court heard. Jones, 35, of Manor Farm, pleaded guilty to sexual assault on a child aged under 13. Imposing sentence, Judge Michael Longman told him: “It must have been traumatic for her at the time and it’s bound to have a long-lasting effect, causing psychological and emotional harm to her.” Ian Fenny, prosecuting, said Jones entered the child’s room in the early hours and licked her ear and face. He said: “She pushed him away. That didn’t stop him and she was frightened and alarmed.” The court heard Jones then pressed himself against the child intimately. Mr Fenny said: “She was terrified. “The defendant said she should loosen up and when she said she couldn’t that made him angry and agitated. “He said ‘be quiet’, she said it hurt her and the matter ended when they heard the bedroom door handle turning.” The court heard the traumatised victim said nothing for some time but the matter was reported and Jones was arrested. At first he did not accept any of the allegations, the court heard. Jones was handed a probation order in 1994 after a conviction for molesting another nine-year-old in her bed. Fiona Elder, defending, told the court: “It’s quite clear that you deal with a very frightened man who has lost everything. “That may be through his own actions, but he has lost everything. To a great extent, he is very much alone.” Miss Elder stressed her client had pleaded guilty, albeit on the day of a planned trial. She said an original charge of attempted rape was not pursued. Miss Elder conceded that the abuse would have had a significant impact on the victim. She said it was one allegation of sexual assault and he had remained out of trouble since. She said: “He is very well aware that this particular offence gives the court the option of imprisonment for public protection or an extended sentence. “He now has two sexual offences against young girls against his name.”
