ABERDEEN PENSIONER ORDERED TO ADDRESS ALCOHOL ISSUES AFTER THREATENING WIFE IN HIGH-RISE
A pensioner from Aberdeen named Patrick Rothwell, aged 71, has been involved in threatening and abusive behavior towards his wife of 27 years.Last June, Rothwell displayed aggressive behavior on several occasions, including threatening to throw his elderly wife of 81 out of a high-rise window in Granitehill House.
He was found to have been abusive during these incidents, which were largely associated with his alcohol consumption.
Witnesses, including his wife and a neighbor, described Rothwell as being like a different person when he was drinking, on one occasion pulling back his fist as if to strike his wife.
The wife ran from the flat in a state of panic and sought refuge with a neighbor, who described her as being "as white as a sheet." Three days later, fearing another argument, she fled the flat again and called the police.
Rothwell was charged with two counts of threatening and abusive behavior at Aberdeen Sheriff Court.
He later broke his bail conditions by contacting his victim to ask for more money for alcohol.
During a court hearing, Rothwell admitted to the charges, and sentencing was deferred for background reports.
His defense solicitor stated that Rothwell was attempting to address his alcohol issues and had made some behavioral changes, including staying in homeless accommodation and consuming alcohol only once since custody.
The sheriff imposed a supervision order for 12 months and ordered Rothwell to complete 60 hours of unpaid work.
The sheriff warned that any future offenses could lead to custody and expressed hope that the unpaid work would help him with his alcohol problem.
