December 2022 Man sentenced for attempted child abduction Following a Thames Valley Police investigation, a man has been sentenced in connection with the attempted abduction of a girl. Omar Brown, aged 40, of Reed Walk, Newbury, was sentenced to 10 months in prison suspended for two years at Reading Crown Court yesterday (19/12). Brown was also sentenced to 30 sessions of sex offender treatment, 40 days of rehabilitation activity requirement and was made subject to a 10-year sexual harm prevention order. A jury found him guilty of one count of attempted child abduction at the same court on 21 September following a four-day trial. At the same trial no verdict was reached by the jury on the charge of kidnap. A verdict of not guilty has now been found in respect of this offence. On 7 August 2020, the victim, a girl then in her teens, was waiting for a bus on Colyton Way when Brown pulled up in a car alongside her and asked her for a drink. Brown then offered the victim a lift and when she declined her grabbed her arm and pulled her in the direction of his car. The victim managed to get his hands off her, and was able to leave when her bus arrived shortly afterwards. Brown was arrested on 15 August 2020 and charged on 11 March last year.
