ABERDEEN MAN JAILED FOR DRUNKEN ASSAULT ON PARTNER
A drunken father of three, Norman Gardiner, was involved in a severe assault on his partner, which led to her fleeing the scene with her face and clothing covered in blood.According to Aberdeen Sheriff Court, Gardiner and his partner of 16 years hosted friends for drinks at their Northfield home, but the evening turned violent around 1 am when Gardiner became aggressive after hours of drinking.
The court heard how Gardiner twice pushed his partner, causing her to scream in pain and hitting a cooker and toilet in the process.
He then picked up a knife and commanded her to leave the house, although it was clarified that he did not brandish the weapon threateningly, but was using it to intimidate her.
Despite handing over the knife, Gardiner continued to assault his partner in the bathroom and bedroom, punching her to the face and body before witnesses intervened, allowing her to escape.
Neighbors heard shouting and her crying out to be let out, which prompted them to call police.
Officers located the woman and a relative on a nearby street where she was found with her face and clothes covered in blood.
Gardiner admitted to charges of assault and threatening and abusive behavior on June 1.
His defense claimed that his drinking was out of control and that he deeply regrets his actions, emphasizing that there was no threat with the knife.
Gardiner was ordered to complete 140 hours of unpaid work and 18 months of supervision as an alternative to custody.
Despite the incident, he and his partner continue to live together.
