ABERDEEN MAN NIGEL BEACHAM CONVICTED OF SEX OFFENCES AGAINST YOUNG BOYS

A man from Aberdeen, Nigel Beacham, aged 50, has been found guilty of committing a series of serious sexual offences against young boys, spanning nearly two decades. The conviction was handed down at Aberdeen Sheriff Court after a jury deliberated for less than three hours, reaching a unanimous verdict on all charges. Despite maintaining his innocence throughout the trial, Beacham was convicted of multiple counts related to his abusive conduct.

One of the most disturbing aspects of the case involves an incident from 2004, when Beacham targeted a boy who was only 12 years old at the time. The abuse persisted until the boy reached 16, involving inappropriate touching of his genitals and performing sexual acts. The victim, now an adult, provided detailed testimony describing how Beacham would initiate abuse under the guise of play-fighting, which would then turn sexual. He recounted instances where Beacham would pin him to the floor and touch his penis, as well as perform sexual acts during these episodes.

In addition to this primary victim, Beacham faced allegations involving three other boys. These victims were subjected to forced exposure to pornography and were made to watch explicit material against their will. During police interviews, Beacham initially denied the allegations, claiming he believed the victims were older than they actually were. At one point, he was recorded saying, “There’s no way he was 12. That would make me a paedophile,” when informed of the boy’s age.

The court heard that the offences took place over a lengthy period, from 2004 up until 2023, highlighting the persistent nature of Beacham’s misconduct. The judge, Sheriff Ian Wallace, deferred sentencing to allow for the preparation of background reports but took immediate steps to address the severity of the crimes. Beacham was placed on the sex offenders register and ordered to return to court for sentencing on July 4. The court also acknowledged the serious impact these offences have had on the victims, especially the primary victim who described feeling confused about his own sexuality as a result of the abuse.

Furthermore, Beacham was convicted of threatening behaviour involving a knife in 2023, adding to the gravity of his criminal record, which was otherwise noted as clear prior to these offences. The court emphasized the long-lasting psychological and emotional effects on the victims, with particular attention paid to the most affected individual. The investigation included police interviews where Beacham expressed concern about being labeled a paedophile and expressed hope that he was not in trouble, believing the victims were of legal age. The judge underscored the seriousness of the crimes, stating that Beacham exploited young boys and that his actions had profound and enduring consequences for those affected.
