NAIM MOHAMMED AZIZ SENTENCED TO 13 YEARS FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES IN STOKE-ON-TRENT AND HANLEY
A man identified as Naim Mohammed Aziz has been handed a substantial prison sentence of 13 years after being convicted of multiple serious sexual offences and an attempted kidnapping in the Stoke-on-Trent area. The court proceedings revealed a disturbing pattern of criminal behavior that has left a lasting impact on his victims.Aziz was found guilty of raping a 17-year-old girl in April 2018 within the Northwood district of Stoke-on-Trent. The assault was described as particularly heinous, and it marked the beginning of a series of troubling incidents involving the offender. The court also heard about a separate incident that took place in March 2019 in Hanley, where Aziz approached another woman on the street. During this encounter, Aziz initially attempted to assault her from behind, an act that was both aggressive and threatening. When the woman tried to resist, Aziz physically pulled her toward his vehicle in an apparent attempt to kidnap her. Fortunately, the woman managed to break free from Aziz’s grasp and escape the situation, avoiding what could have been a tragic outcome.
Following a detailed investigation, Aziz was arrested on April 9, 2019, less than a year after the incidents occurred. His trial at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court lasted for a week, during which he was charged with multiple offences including rape, sexual assault, attempted kidnapping, administering a substance with intent, causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent, and an offence with intent to commit a sexual offence. The court heard how Aziz’s actions had profoundly traumatized his victims, leaving them with emotional scars that would likely persist for years.
Detective Sergeant Michael George, who was involved in the case, publicly acknowledged the bravery of the victims. He stated, “The victims were subjected to ordeals from a man whose actions left both victims traumatised. I would like to thank the victims, whose bravery and courage in supporting our investigation and the court case has been instrumental.” The court’s decision reflects the severity of Aziz’s crimes and underscores the importance of justice for victims of sexual violence in Stoke-on-Trent and Hanley.
