THAYALAN THURASINGHAM FROM STOKE-ON-TRENT SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT ON SCHOOLGIRL
In November 2020, a disturbing case emerged from Stoke-on-Trent involving Thayalan Thurasingham, a 59-year-old man who was convicted of sexually abusing a young girl.The incident took place in the city, where Thurasingham targeted a schoolgirl, engaging in inappropriate physical contact before coercing her into silence with the words, ‘don’t tell anyone’.
The brave victim, despite feeling overwhelmed and disgusted by the assault, chose to report the incident to Staffordshire Police, which led to Thurasingham’s swift arrest.
During the court proceedings at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court, it was revealed that Thurasingham had told the girl not to disclose what had happened, emphasizing the secrecy of his actions.
An investigation into Thurasingham’s mobile phone history uncovered that he had previously visited numerous pornography websites, raising concerns about his prior exposure to explicit material.
During police interviews, Thurasingham denied committing the offence, claiming that he had been drinking wine, beer, and whisky at the time, although he insisted he was not intoxicated.
The court heard that the young victim was deeply distressed and felt a profound sense of disgust and upset following the assault.
Thurasingham, who resides on Snow Hill in the Shelton area of Stoke-on-Trent, pleaded guilty to a charge of sexually assaulting a child under the age of 13.
Judge David Fletcher, presiding over the case, condemned Thurasingham’s conduct, describing it as “appalling behaviour.” The judge also noted that the consumption of alcohol during the incident was an aggravating factor in the case.
As a result of his conviction, Thurasingham was sentenced to three years in prison.
Additionally, he has been placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life and is subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which will remain in effect until further notice, to protect the community from any potential future harm.
