YOUNG WOMAN AVOIDS PRISON AFTER VIOLENT DISH-THROWING AT MOTHER
A woman has avoided being sent to prison following an incident where she threw dishes at her mother’s head because she was asked if she was "okay".The offender, Nadezda Gerascenko, on the eve of her 21st birthday, became enraged during an argument and started hurling "multiple" plates and wine glasses at her mother, causing lasting disfigurement.
The attack resulted in a 1.75cm cut to her mother’s head and bruising across her left arm.
Gerascenko pled guilty to two charges: repeatedly throwing glasses and plates at her mother and causing her to suffer fear or alarm through aggressive behavior.
Aberdeen Sheriff Court was told that Gerascenko was in the family home’s living room when her mother heard her crying and asked about her wellbeing.
Her behavior appeared unpredictable, with her waving a sketchbook and her arms in the air, prompting her mother to back away.
Gerascenko then followed her mother, hitting her on the head.
The mother managed to grab the sketchbook to shield herself and told her to stop.
During the incident, Gerascenko threw several plates and glasses at her mother, who tried to protect her face with the sketchbook.
The police later traced, cautioned, and charged her.
Her defense lawyer described her as a young woman with significant mental health issues; her doctor recommended mental health assessment.
The sheriff, Sheriff Peter Grant-Hutchison, emphasized that society disapproves of such conduct and sentenced her to a one-year community payback order with supervision and a requirement to contact mental health services.
