ABERDEEN SEX OFFENDER MICHAEL ROGERS SENTENCED AFTER CHILD INDECENT IMAGES DISCOVERED
In a case that has shocked the local community in Aberdeen, Michael Rogers, a 30-year-old resident, was sentenced to prison following the discovery of multiple indecent images of children on his electronic devices. The investigation into Rogers' activities uncovered disturbing evidence that has led to serious legal consequences.
Rogers was initially brought before the court in October of the previous year, where he received a 16-month jail sentence and was ordered to register as a sex offender for a period of ten years.
This sentencing followed his admission to sending sexually explicit messages to a young girl, as well as requesting her to send explicit images of herself.
These actions marked a grave breach of trust and legality, prompting the authorities to take swift action.
During a court appearance before Sheriff Alison Stirling, Rogers pleaded guilty to charges that included taking or permitting the taking of indecent images of children, as well as possessing such images.
The offences spanned from September 8, 2014, to October 21, 2015, a period during which Rogers engaged in illicit activities that have now been brought to light.
The investigation that led to Rogers' arrest was initiated when police raided his home in Aberdeen as part of an ongoing inquiry into the allegations involving the young girl.
During the search, law enforcement officials recovered electronic devices, including a laptop and a tablet, which were subsequently examined.
The forensic analysis revealed a total of 23 indecent images stored on these devices, with four classified as Category A—the most severe classification—nine as Category B, and the remaining images falling into Category C.
Legal representative John Ferrie stated that Rogers had accepted responsibility for his actions from the outset of the case.
He emphasized that prior to these offences, Rogers had no previous criminal record, highlighting the gravity of the situation and the breach of trust involved.
Ferrie also mentioned that Rogers had plans to relocate to England upon his release from prison, indicating an attempt to start anew after serving his sentence.
In her sentencing remarks, Sheriff Stirling, who presided over the case at HMP Grampian where Rogers is currently detained, announced that she would impose an additional four-month jail term for the charges related to the indecent images.
This decision underscores the seriousness with which the court views the offences committed by Rogers and the impact on the victims involved.
