MERSEYSIDE COLLEGE WORKER JAILED FOR CHILD ABUSE AND IMAGE COLLECTION
A paedophile who sexually assaulted a teenage girl amassed a large collection of indecent images while employed at a Merseyside college. Michael Hollywood, 43, recorded himself abusing the teenage girl and committed a series of crimes spanning two decades. His illicit activities were only discovered when a family member found disturbing images on his laptop as he was desperately trying to regain access to the device. Hollywood worked at Hugh Baird College for several years while collecting images. Although the college conducted pre-employment and safer recruitment checks, there is no evidence he accessed or used college equipment for his crimes. Hollywood was arrested in January this year at his residence in Bootle and police later found approximately 3,000 indecent images on his hard drive, including some showing him abusing a teenage girl in Westhoughton. Additional images indicated he had collected material dating back from November 2003 to October 2023, and secretly photographed a woman without her consent. Hollywood admitted to sexual assault, assault by penetration, making indecent images of a child, voyeurism, and possessing indecent images, leading to a nine-year prison sentence. He will serve at least two-thirds of his sentence before being eligible for release and will also be subject to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order and lifelong inclusion on the sex offenders register. Hollywood sobbed via video link during sentencing, with victims speaking about the trauma caused. One victim said: 'I had no idea that evil such as you existed, because I was innocent. I will survive this. The panic attacks will lessen, the fear will subside, the nightmares will fade. You will fade, because you are not a monster. You are a coward.' The other victim urged that Hollywood not be allowed to reoffend. His defense counsel described him as a once-decent man who had a dark side overtaking him, expressing remorse and regret for his actions. Hollywood was employed by Hugh Baird College from 2004 to 2017 as an IT technician and PAT tester. Despite the college's checks, his criminal activities remained hidden until uncovered by concerned family members and police. The college recently received an 'outstanding' rating from Ofsted.
