BOOTLE MAN JAILED FOR VIOLENT ASSAULT ON EX-GIRLFRIEND
A man from Bootle has been sentenced to 28 months in prison after he attacked his ex-girlfriend with a hammer in a revenge attack.
The offender, identified as Darren Neild, previously threatened her during a row, and on the day of sentencing, he was convicted of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and intentional strangulation.
The victim's family and witnesses described how Neild's actions left her 'shaking' with fear.
During the incident, he punched and slapped her violently and then throttled her, resulting in her suffering a broken jaw.
Neild had previously been under a restraining order which he blatantly disregarded.
His court hearing revealed that he flew into a jealous rage after suspecting his ex-partner had started a new relationship, leading to his assault in the street.
The judge sentenced him to 28 months, and he was also handed a five-year restraining order preventing him from contacting her again.
The court emphasized the seriousness of his conduct, and his actions were described as 'disgraceful' by the judge, who said, 'No apology could ever erase the damage he has caused.'
