BOOTLE WOMAN PLEADS GUILTY TO MANSLAUGHTER AFTER STABBING BOYFRIEND
A woman named Jenny McAdam, aged 29, from Worcester Road, Bootle, was involved in a fatal stabbing incident where she stabbed her boyfriend, Charles Shaw, with a kitchen knife at their flat.Liverpool Crown Court heard that McAdam, who has a mental impairment and learning difficulties, drank two bottles of wine before stabbing Charles Shaw in the throat and armpit.
She denied murder but her guilty plea to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility was accepted by the court.
The court was informed that the couple had been living together for two years without a history of violence, but a few weeks prior to the incident, McAdam had become withdrawn, depressed, and had started drinking heavily.
On the night of the attack, after going to a pub with Shaw and arguing on their way home, McAdam grabbed a kitchen knife and told Shaw, 'I hate you,' before stabbing him.
Psychiatric reports indicated that McAdam was afraid of rejection and exhibited explosive outbursts.
Judge Henry Globe QC made an indefinite hospital order, and she was taken to a specialized unit in Cardiff.
