MICHAEL FALLAN FROM GLASGOW JAILED FOR UNDERAGE SEX AT LANARKSHIRE HOTEL
In a case that has shocked the local community, Michael Fallan, a 30-year-old man from Glasgow, was sentenced to prison last week after admitting to engaging in sexual activity with a girl under the age of 16 at a hotel in Lanarkshire.The incident took place at the Holiday Inn Express located in Strathclyde Park, and the court proceedings revealed disturbing details about the events leading up to his conviction.
According to court records, Fallan was found guilty of having consensual sexual intercourse with a girl who was between 12 and 16 years old during April 2013.
The case came to light after the girl’s mother repeatedly questioned her about her whereabouts, eventually prompting the girl to admit that she had spent the night with Fallan.
The girl’s mother was initially reassured by Fallan’s explanation that her daughter would be staying overnight with a friend, and that he had personally walked her to meet the friend’s father.
This story convinced her that her daughter was in safe hands, as Fallan claimed to have met the girl’s friend’s father earlier that day.
The girl was initially met at a shopping centre in the east end of Glasgow, where she and Fallan drove together to the hotel in Strathclyde Park.
Court documents state that Fallan had booked the hotel room using his brother’s credit card, which his brother had permitted him to use, although the brother was unaware of the purpose.
After signing in at the hotel reception, Fallan exited to collect the girl and then took her to the room.
The girl recalled having half a can of beer, although her memory of the night was hazy.
She remembered sitting on a couch in the hotel room and then moving to the bed with Fallan.
The court heard that the two engaged in sexual activity, and they remained at the hotel until the following morning, when Fallan told her it had been a good night.
Prosecutor Lauren McRobert explained that the girl was shocked to realize she had been involved in sexual activity with Fallan.
The girl and Fallan left the hotel together and took a bus home.
On their walk back, a family friend who saw them together found the situation suspicious and contacted the girl’s family.
When the girl’s mother returned home that Sunday morning, she was informed of their presence together.
Attempts to contact both Fallan and the girl failed, as their phones were switched off.
The girl’s mother then returned home and found her daughter, who initially claimed she had been staying at a friend’s house and had not seen Fallan.
However, she later confessed to her mother that she had spent the night at a hotel with him.
The girl begged her mother not to involve the police, but she proceeded to do so, leading to an investigation.
DNA evidence was also presented in court, linking Fallan directly to the girl.
During the sentencing hearing at Hamilton Sheriff Court, Fallan’s legal representative requested leniency, citing his guilty plea and the fact that the offense involved only a single meeting.
Sheriff Douglas Brown acknowledged the seriousness of the case, emphasizing that the offense was deliberate rather than opportunistic, and that Fallan had attempted to conceal the truth from the girl’s mother.
Ultimately, the sheriff sentenced Fallan to 12 months in prison, a reduction from the original 18 months due to his early guilty plea.
Additionally, Fallan was placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for a period of ten years, reflecting the gravity of his actions and the need for ongoing monitoring.
