ABERDEEN SEX OFFENDER DECLARED HIMSELF ‘KING TUT’ AND ASSAULTED A CHILD AT BUS STOP
A twisted serial sex offender targeted a girl at an Aberdeen bus stop where he bizarrely declared he was “King Tut” and then touched her breasts.Martin McNolty – holding a wine bottle – approached the 13-year-old girl at the Powis Terrace bus stop. The 42-year-old, who was intoxicated, made strange references to ancient Egyptian royalty, claiming to be King Tut and his mother Queen Nefertiti, and asked if she wanted to go on a flight.
He then put his arms around her and swayed.
His behaviour escalated when he touched her breasts and tried to stop her from boarding the bus.Aberdeen Sheriff Court heard the incident occurred on June 6, when the girl was waiting for a bus.
Fiscal depute Jane Spark stated: “While she was at the bus stop, the accused walked toward her with a bottle of wine, approached her, and initiated conversation.
The accused was intoxicated and told her he was King Tut, his mother was Queen Nefertiti, and that she was beautiful.”He then made incoherent comments about flying her away, touched her breasts, and held her while swaying.
After about a minute of this strange behaviour, the girl attempted to convince him that her mother was at the bus stop, to get him to leave her alone.
Instead, McNolty unzipped his top, exposing his chest, and continued to babble about being King Tut.
He then blocked her from boarding the bus by holding her shoulders, although a witness challenged him, allowing her to escape.
The girl was visibly upset after the incident. After she went home and told her mother, police were called and McNolty was arrested.
He admitted to assaulting the girl, as well as two unrelated charges of possessing the drug etizolam and shoplifting.
His solicitor explained he had experienced an ‘exceptionally traumatic childhood’ and had a previous conviction for handling a 14-year-old girl’s face and legs at the Aberdeen shopping centre, which resulted in a rehabilitation programme and unpaid work.
McNolty was under the influence of alcohol and drugs at the time of the offence, which was described as “truly bizarre” by his lawyer.Sheriff Ian Wallace noted that this offence, combined with his previous similar incident, showed a “very concerning pattern of behaviour.” As a result, he sentenced McNolty to an extended sentence of 32 months: 20 months in prison and 12 months on licence, with lifelong notification requirements under the Sexual Offences Act.
The offender is currently incarcerated at HMP Grampian in Peterhead.
