ABERDEEN MAN JAILED FOR PERSISTENT DOMESTIC ABUSE
A domestic abuser identified as Martin Liddle has been sentenced after being convicted of a pattern of violent and abusive behavior towards his partner in Aberdeen.The court heard that Liddle, aged 29, subjected his partner to a series of violent incidents in January of the previous year, including grabbing her by the hair, dragging her, throwing her onto a sofa, hurling a glass at her, and headbutting her.
The jury found him guilty of two charges related to these events after a trial at Aberdeen Sheriff Court.
The court established that Liddle engaged in a course of conduct that was abusive at her address in Aberdeen between January 4 and 26.
His repeated acts included punching the woman in the head, grabbing her hair, dragging her, smashing a glass container on her, pushing her against a wall, striking her head against a doorframe, and assaulting her in various ways that resulted in injury.
The injuries inflicted were described as quite significant, with photographic evidence presented in court.
Further, Liddle was convicted of breaching a bail condition that prevented him from contacting the complainant.
Following the verdict, the judge deferred sentencing for reports but later sentenced Liddle to 26 months in prison, backdated to when he was remanded in custody in January of the previous year.
The judge, Sheriff Graham Buchanan, noted the persistence of abuse and the serious injuries caused, remarking on the extent of the damage, especially to her face.
Addressing Liddle, who was detained at HMP Grampian, the sheriff said, "The sheer persistence of abuse involved is clear.
The woman suffered quite significant injuries, particularly one to her face which was seen in photos and was thoroughly unpleasant." Recognizing the gravity of the conduct, the sheriff concluded that only a custodial sentence was appropriate.
Additionally, a three-year non-harassment order was imposed.
