LOGAN DOIG AND HIS SHOCKING CRIMES IN ANGUS, GLASGOW AND DUNDEE

A young man from Angus, Logan Doig, aged 23, has been sentenced to a lengthy imprisonment after being convicted of multiple serious sexual offences, including the rape of four women.

The case was heard at the High Court in Glasgow, where the severity of his crimes and the circumstances surrounding them were detailed during sentencing.

Doig was found guilty of 12 offences in total, spanning over a period of approximately five and a half years, beginning when he was just 15 years old.

His crimes involved sexual assaults, including five charges of rape, some of which were committed against two women on multiple occasions.

Additionally, three women were subjected to other forms of sexual assault, and one of the victims was assaulted violently at Queen Margaret University in East Lothian, where she was raped within the confines of the student halls.

The offences took place across various locations, including the towns of Forfar and Kirriemuir in Angus, and a property in Dundee.

The jury’s verdict last month confirmed Doig’s guilt on 12 charges, which also included non-sexual assault.

During the sentencing hearing, Lord Clark emphasized the gravity of these crimes, noting that some of the rapes had caused physical injury.

The offences were characterized by a pattern of abusive behavior that, in his view, posed a significant risk to the safety of women.

In delivering the sentence, Lord Clark imposed an extended period of 12 years and 6 months, with a custodial term of nine and a half years followed by a three-year supervised extension in the community.

Specifically, the custodial part of the sentence was set at nine years and six months, with six months of that time attributed to aggravating factors during the commission of some offences.

The court elaborated on the rationale behind the relatively shorter sentence attributable to Doig’s youth, citing sentencing guidelines that favor lighter penalties for offenders under the age of 25 due to their perceived level of immaturity and capacity for rehabilitation.

Despite these considerations, the judge expressed concerns about Doig’s continued risk to women, underscoring the necessity of an extended sentence to ensure public safety.

In his remarks, Lord Clark acknowledged that Doig asserted he was innocent of the sexual offences, choosing instead to accept responsibility only for a non-sexual assault he admitted was a childish act.

The judge also noted the defendant's denial of the sexual charges and highlighted the limited insight into his potential for rehabilitation, despite expectations that he would engage in offending-specific intervention programs.

The sentence also stipulates that Doig will remain on the sex offenders' register indefinitely, a standard requirement given the nature of his crimes.

The court emphasized that his pattern of repeated offences, some of which were aggravated by abusive conduct, along with his lack of remorse, justified the need for an extended period of supervision in the community after his release.

This case has drawn attention to concerns about the criminal justice system’s handling of cases involving young offenders.

Scottish Conservative justice spokesman Russell Findlay criticized the use of guidelines that, in his view, weaken accountability by downplaying the seriousness of such offences, especially in incidents where victims are vulnerable.

The sentencing hearing was marked by a serious tone, reflecting the gravity of the offences committed against vulnerable women in Angus, Glasgow, Dundee, and East Lothian, and the lasting impact on the victims involved.

The court’s decision in this case aims to balance justice with considerations of the defendant’s age, while prioritizing public safety and victim healing.
