ABERDEEN MAN SENTENCED FOR THREATENING TO BURN DOWN MOTHER’S HOUSE
A man named Kieran Towler, aged 26, pleaded guilty to threatening to set fire to his mother's house after she refused him entry. At Aberdeen Sheriff Court, it was revealed that Towler arrived at his mother's residence in Danestone and demanded entry, claiming he had property to collect.
When his mother called the police, Towler warned, “if you phone the police I’ll burn the house down before they get here.” He then proceeded to kick the door with such force that the room reportedly vibrated, and he shouted abusive words towards her, including calling her a “weirdo” and a “psycho”.
He even attempted to climb through the kitchen window.
Towler was later apprehended by police and released under conditions not to contact or visit his mother.
The following morning, he was found outside her house again, refusing to leave and demanding a list of phone numbers.
During the court proceedings, his defence team explained his actions as stemming from mental health issues, medication changes, unemployment, a recent break-up, and substance abuse problems.
The sheriff acknowledged his mental health problems but emphasized the distress caused to his mother.
As a result, Towler was sentenced to a community payback order, including 12 months of supervision and 110 hours of unpaid work.
