KENNETH TURNER FROM SHEFFIELD CAUGHT IN SEXUAL GROOMING PLOT BY PEDOPHILE HUNTERS
In September 2022, a disturbing case unfolded in Sheffield involving Kenneth Turner, a 55-year-old man from the Manor area, who was caught in a sexual grooming scheme orchestrated by a vigilant pedophile hunter group.Turner believed he was engaging in online conversations with a 13-year-old girl, but in reality, he was communicating with a decoy created by the group known as Totnes Justice.
Prosecutor James Baird detailed the case during the hearing held on September 2, explaining that Turner used Facebook Messenger to contact the fake profile.
The decoy, posing as a young girl, was part of an undercover operation aimed at catching individuals attempting to exploit minors.
Turner’s conversations quickly turned sexual in nature, with him asking intrusive questions about the girl’s bedtime attire, including whether she wore a bra and the color of her panties.
He also inquired if she could touch herself sexually, indicating his intent to engage in inappropriate activities.
Further, Turner discussed plans to meet the girl, initially suggesting Chesterfield and later Sheffield as locations for their encounter.
He even proposed sharing a hotel room where they could be alone together.
The police were alerted when Turner arrived at Sheffield railway station, where he was recognized and detained by members of another vigilant group called Stop.
His arrest was swift and decisive, preventing any potential harm.
Kenneth Turner, who has no prior criminal record, pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity, attempting to meet a child for sexual grooming, and attempting to engage in sexual communication with a minor.
The offences took place between May and June 2020.
Judge Graham Robinson presided over the case and acknowledged Turner’s mental capacity, noting that he is considered to have low intelligence.
The judge also recognized that the offences occurred two years prior and that Turner had not committed any other crimes since then.
In his sentencing, Judge Robinson sentenced Turner to six months in prison, suspended for nine months, coupled with a requirement to participate in a rehabilitation activity.
Additionally, Turner was ordered to register as a sex offender for a period of seven years and was placed under a sexual harm prevention order for the same duration.
The court’s actions reflect the seriousness with which such offences are treated, emphasizing the importance of protecting minors from exploitation and ensuring offenders are monitored and rehabilitated.
