Mervyn Bramhall/Bramall

Sheffield Sexual Abuser

Note: This offender was listed in the press under two slightly differently spelt surnames as follows: Bramall or Bramhall January 2023 Sex offender Mervyn Bramall (75) found with “My Best Paedo” computer file – but spared jail A convicted sex offender whose “My Best Paedo” and “Kiddy porn” files were found by police officers on his laptop was spared jail. Mervyn Bramall (75) who pleaded guilty to making indecent images of children, was a registered sex offender and had offences dating back as far as 1975. Mr Daniel Ingham, prosecuting, told Sheffield Crown Court on Monday: “The police attended his home address on February 4, 2021. “They were carrying out a routine visit. “They found a laptop on his kitchen table — he was watching a YouTube video.” The prosecutor said police had found evidence Bramall had viewed an image of a child aged 11 or younger being raped by a man. Police found 17 inaccessible indecent images on Bramall’s computer. Four were at Category A — the most extreme level — seven at Category B and six at Category C images. Mr Ingham said during the examination of the laptop, officers had also found a file named “My Best Paedo” and another file that was found named “Kiddy porn” was found on a USB device. Mr Chris Aspinall, mitigating, said Bramall, of Swinburne Place, Herringthorpe, had some health difficulties and the number of images found had been “relatively small” compared to his last convictions. Judge Sarah Wright said she acknowledged that Bramall’s last conviction was 16 years ago and that he had stayed out of trouble since last February. But she told Bramall that he had pleaded guilty to making the images “that you downloaded from the internet for your own gratification”. Bramall was sentenced to 20 months in prison suspended for two years. He was also ordered to go through 55 rehabilitation requirement days and 43 sessions of sex offender treatment. June 2006 Pervert fled UK after he conned man A convicted paedophile arrested for possessing hundreds of abusive images of young girls conned a man out of thousands of pounds and fled the country, Sheffield Crown Court heard. But Mervyn Bramhall, aged 59, was caught when he returned to the UK after a trip to Amsterdam and Thailand. Bramhall, of no fixed address, was first arrested when he visited the home of another suspected South Yorkshire paedophile in June, 2004. On his computer police found nearly 500 images of young girls. The court heard Bramall was released on bail then conned a man out of £7,000 for building work he promised to carry out. But he used the money to flee the UK going first to Amsterdam and then to Thailand. He returned to the UK when the money ran out and was arrested. Bramhall, a registered sex offender who has previous convictions for indecent assault and indecency against girls under 14, admitted 12 specimen counts of possessing indecent images of children and one count of theft. He also admitted failing to let police know his address and leaving the country. Jailing him for six years and five months, Judge Simon Lawler QC banned him from having a mobile phone or computer or giving a phone to any girl under 16. He also told Bramhall he was not to allow girls under 16 into his home. He said: “I had the misfortune to view the images and they are all photographs of unspeakable depravity featuring girls, sometimes very young girls, with men. “The courts have repeatedly said that those who use this type of material for their own sexual gratification encourage the trade of exploiting and degrading young children. “There are an increasing number of these types of cases coming before our courts and understandable public concern means you must be kept track of by the authorities. “I regard this as a very serious matter and it is essential that such deliberate failure to notify the authorities of your whereabouts will be met by a substantial custodial sentence. “You have admitted your guilt in three areas of criminality. I am told you have expressed remorse but I view that with a degree of scepticism and I suspect you are more sorry for yourself.” Bramhall will also remain on the sex offenders’ register for life.
