KENNETH MILTON SHAMES PAISLEY GRANDPA ESCAPES JAIL IN CHILD SEX ABUSE CASE
In April 2019, Kenneth Milton, a 60-year-old service engineer from Paisley, found himself at the center of a disturbing child sex abuse investigation that uncovered a cache of illegal and highly disturbing material. The police, acting on a tip-off as part of a broader child safety operation in the Renfrewshire area, traced indecent images and videos to Milton’s devices, leading to his arrest and subsequent court appearance.
Milton was discovered to have stored five illicit movie files on both a laptop computer and a USB flash drive.
These files contained footage of underage girls engaged in sexual acts, with some of the victims as young as 13 and 14 years old.
The investigation was initiated after authorities received information linking an IP address in Paisley to the possession of such indecent images.
A warrant was issued, and police executed a search at Milton’s residence, where they recovered the devices from a bedroom.
During the search, Milton’s daughter was present, and she stated that the devices belonged to either her mother or father.
Forensic analysis of the seized devices confirmed the presence of multiple indecent movies.
Among these, one video depicted girls aged 14 and 15, while another featured a 13-year-old girl.
The files were dated between March 2007 and September 2014, indicating a prolonged period during which Milton stored these illegal materials.
The images and videos were classified at Category B, which is considered the second most severe level of illegal content.
Milton appeared before Paisley Sheriff Court for sentencing after pleading guilty to charges related to the possession and allowing the taking of indecent photographs of children.
Prosecutor Keri Marshall informed the court that police had acted swiftly after receiving the initial tip-off, which led to the execution of a search warrant in May 2018.
During the search, police found the devices at Milton’s home, and forensic examination confirmed the presence of multiple indecent images and videos involving young girls.
Milton was interviewed at the police station upon returning from holiday, where he was formally cautioned and charged.
The court heard that the files found included three videos at Category B level, with one showing girls aged between 14 and 15, and another featuring two girls around 13 years old.
The creation dates of these files ranged from 2007 to 2014, highlighting a pattern of ongoing illegal activity.
Defense solicitor Gemma Rathey acknowledged Milton’s responsibility for the offences, emphasizing his age, full-time employment, and the fact that he has separated from his wife as a consequence of these events.
She also noted that Milton is a father to adult children and a grandfather to children under 16, and that the incident has caused significant strain on his family life.
She requested bail to allow for the preparation of reports ahead of sentencing.
Judge James Spy adjourned the case, ordering reports from the Pathways Project, an organization working with sex offenders, and a Criminal Justice Social Work Report.
Milton was placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register and is scheduled to return to court for sentencing on April 2, where his future will be determined based on the reports and legal proceedings.
