DAVID PATON'S SHOCKING SEXUAL ABUSE IN GLASGOW AND PAISLEY
In February 2009, a disturbing case of sexual abuse involving a married man named David Paton came to light, culminating in his sentencing at the High Court in Glasgow.The court heard how Paton, aged 42 at the time, had engaged in a series of heinous acts against three young girls, betraying their trust in the most egregious manner.
Paton had admitted to molesting one girl over a period from 1996 to 2001, beginning when she was just 11 years old.
Another victim, who was 12 at the time of her abuse, was molested by him between 2003 and 2007.
The most troubling revelation involved a third girl, with whom Paton maintained a two-year sexual relationship from 2006 to 2008.
The girl claimed she had consented to the relationship, but the court and prosecutors emphasized the serious nature of the abuse.
During the sentencing, Lady Smith expressed her condemnation of Paton’s actions, stating, "You abused the trust these children placed in you in a disgusting, self-indulgent way that would be quite abhorrent to any decent member of the public." Her words underscored the gravity of the crimes committed and the betrayal of innocence involved.
Paton, who resided on Gordon Street in Paisley, was found guilty of multiple charges, including unlawful sexual activity and acting in a lewd and libidinous manner.
The court sentenced him to six years in prison, with an additional two years of supervised release following his incarceration.
Furthermore, he was placed on the sex offenders’ register, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities post-release.
Prosecutor Paul Kearney highlighted the disturbing nature of the case, noting that the girl involved from 2006 to 2008 believed she was in a genuine sexual relationship with Paton, which added to the complexity and severity of the offenses.
The victims, who had spoken out publicly the previous February, revealed the extent of their suffering and the betrayal they endured at the hands of the man they once trusted.
