November 2017 Nearly 15,000 indecent images of children found on Redhill teaching assistant’s computer – but he avoids jail A former teaching assistant from Redhill who was found to have nearly 15,000 indecent images of children on his computer and phone has avoided prison. Justin Bramley appeared at Guildford Crown Court on Monday (November 13) after previously pleading guilty to three counts of making an indecent photograph and one count of possessing prohibited images of children. The 31-year-old, who lives on Colesmead Road, was a teaching assistant at a school at the time of the offences, prosecutor Susannah Bramley told the court. She said: “On the April 28 of last year Surrey Police were made aware that indecent images were being downloaded to a computer from a particular website. Enquiries revealed that the owner of the computer lived in Colesmead Road, Redhill. The occupants of that address were the defendant and his mother.” Ms Bramley added that officers from Surrey Police attended the defendant’s address in Redhill in March 2017. “The defendant directed officers to the first floor of the address and they retrieved a black iPhone and a computer,” she said. The two devices were taken away as part of the investigation and it was found that there were nearly 15,000 indecent images of children on the two combined. Ms Bramley concluded by adding that it was also found that Bramley had visited websites containing child sex abuse images 963 times. The court heard how Bramley had recently been accepted for a carpentry course and currently works in a card shop as well as volunteering at a charity shop. Judge Robert Fraser sentenced Bramley, who was wearing a white shirt, black trousers, black shoes and a black tie, to eight months imprisonment suspended for two years and ordered him to serve 120 hours of unpaid work. He said: “What is really concerning is the harm caused to the children. As there are people looking at these images, it means there is a market for them and children suffer as a result.” He added: “What is concerning for me is at the time you were a teaching assistant so would have been in the company of children as well.”
