BOOTLE MAN JAILED FOR STALKING AND BREACHING RESTRAINING ORDER
Joseph McKenna, aged 20, from Capstick Crescent in Belle Vale, was brought into court by a dock officer, having been held in custody.
He faced charges of harassment breaching a restraining order and breaching a suspended sentence.
The court heard that between February 19 and February 26, 2025, McKenna repeatedly texted and called a woman named Ifunanya Ezennolim, with whom he had a short relationship of three months.
She had been in a relationship with him when he was arrested and was stalked by him after the relationship ended.
On January 27, McKenna was previously given a suspended prison sentence for affray, criminal damage, and stalking, along with a restraining order banning him from approaching Ms Ezennolim.
Despite this, on February 19 at 1.15 am, he called her and told her she had 'ruined his life'.
He also continued to attempt to contact her over several days and was observed on CCTV walking near her student accommodation.
During court proceedings, it was explained that he was spotted on Great Crosshall Street opposite her residence, and he had breached the restraining order.
McKenna was found guilty of breaching the restraining order and stalking.
The judge, after considering his behavior and prior convictions, sentenced him to serve the full 24 weeks in prison, along with an additional 8 weeks for breaching the restraining order, making a total of 32 weeks in prison.
His defense argued that he was initially well-behaved after court, but later fell into despair after losing accommodation, leading to his illegal actions.
