November 2018 Fifteen years in jail for rapist in Bristol A man who used fake social media profiles to target girls and women online and force them to send him indecent images or carry out sexual acts has been jailed for 15 years. Joseph Cook, aged 28, of Bristol, was charged with rape and inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. He was found guilty following a trial at Bristol Crown Court this month and has been sentence to 12 years for the charge of rape and three years for the charge of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. The sentences are to run consecutively. He was also given an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO). The police investigation began in 2016 when a 17-year-old contacted police and reported that a man had demanded she send him indecent images or he would share images that she had sent when she was only 13-years-old. Cook was traced as the suspect and his mobile phones were seized . It was found that he had created alias accounts on social media in order to contact young females and obtain nude images of them by pretending to be interested in them romantically. Cook then used threats to obtain further images and videos of his victims carrying out sexual acts. These threats were intended to cause distress to these young girls who previously trusted him with their images. In April of 2018, while already under investigation, Cook made contact with a woman using a dating website profile in the name of Jack Barry. He made threats to share indecent images of her with her friends and family if she did not carry out sexual acts with Joseph Cook who was known to the victim. Fearing that he would carry out these threats the victim took part in the sexual acts.
