ABERDEEN MAN JOHN TODD ESCAPES JAIL DESPITE DOWNLOAD OF CHILD INDECENT IMAGES
In a case that has shocked the community of Aberdeen, John Todd, a resident of Great Southern Road, narrowly avoided imprisonment after being found in possession of a vast collection of indecent images depicting children. The investigation revealed that Todd had stored thousands of such images across six different devices, which included photographs of girls aged between eight and 15 years old.
In addition to the images, authorities discovered numerous stories that detailed the sexual abuse of minors, further highlighting the disturbing nature of his activities.
According to court records, Todd, aged 54, pleaded guilty to charges of possessing indecent photographs of children from August 2, 2019, to January 27 of the following year.
He also admitted to creating these images by saving them onto his computer during the period from December 1 of the previous year up until January 27.
The police executed a search warrant at Todd’s residence on January 27, 2020, during which the extent of his illicit collection was uncovered.
During questioning, Todd initially claimed that he had unintentionally downloaded the images while searching for adult pornography.
However, he later confessed that his intent was sexual gratification, which motivated his collection of the material.
At the time of the police search, investigators found two Category A images, four Category B images, and 200 Category C images still accessible on his devices.
It was also revealed that Todd had already deleted three Category A images, two Category B images, and a staggering 1,732 Category C images, with the earliest of these images dating back to December 2010.
In delivering his judgment, Sheriff Graham Buchanan described Todd’s interest in child sexual abuse as “most disturbing” and emphasized that he had a “very serious problem.” While Todd was not sentenced to jail, he was ordered to complete 200 hours of unpaid community service and to participate in a sexual offender rehabilitation program.
Additionally, he was placed on the sex offenders register, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities and behavior moving forward.
