JOHN HUME SENTENCED IN GLASGOW FOR 17-YEAR ABUSE OF YOUNG GIRLS
In a significant legal development in Glasgow, John Hume, a 50-year-old man from Ashby Crescent, Knightswood, was sentenced to five years in prison by the High Court for a prolonged period of sexual abuse involving four young girls. The abuse, which spanned an alarming 17 years, began when the victims were as young as eight and continued until they reached 14 years of age.
Hume's heinous actions took place at a property located in Glasgow's West End, where he targeted his victims over nearly two decades.
The court heard detailed accounts of the abuse, including a disturbing incident where Hume recorded one of the girls in a bathroom after she had undressed, raising serious concerns about his predatory behavior.
The charges against Hume included five counts of engaging in lewd and libidinous practices, which he was found guilty of by the court.
The evidence presented painted a disturbing picture of a man who exploited his young victims over a lengthy period, causing significant emotional and psychological harm.
Judge Lord Doherty, presiding over the case, ordered Hume to be remanded into custody immediately following the verdict.
The judge also deferred sentencing until August, during which Hume was placed on the sex offenders register, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities.
During the court proceedings, a female relative in the courtroom reacted emotionally, shouting at the victims, “liars, you are really good liars,” as Hume was led away in handcuffs to the cells.
This outburst underscored the intense emotions and the complex dynamics surrounding the case, which has shocked the Glasgow community and brought to light the disturbing extent of Hume’s abuse.
