JOHN HENDRY'S BRUTAL CRIMES IN ABERDEEN: DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND ESCAPE MISHAP REVEALED

The court proceedings in Aberdeen shed light on a disturbing case involving John Hendry, a 30-year-old man whose violent actions have shocked the local community. Hendry faced charges related to a series of severe domestic abuse incidents against his former partner, incidents that have left a trail of physical and emotional scars.

During the hearing at Aberdeen Sheriff Court, it was revealed that Hendry was under the influence of cocaine at the time of the assault. His violent outburst escalated to the point where he threatened his partner with a large kitchen knife, ominously warning her, “You are going to die today.” The court heard that this assault took place in front of their child, adding a layer of horror to the incident. Hendry reportedly told his partner that one of them would die and cruelly demanded she choose who would be the victim, a chilling display of his violent intent.

Adding to the complexity of his case was a bizarre and troubling incident involving a mistaken prison release. Hendry had been released from custody last October, despite outstanding legal matters that should have kept him detained. The Scottish Prison Service, unaware of these unresolved issues, granted him freedom and issued a travel pass that allowed him to travel to Aberdeen. It was only after the authorities realized Hendry should have remained in custody that a manhunt was launched. Police intercepted Hendry’s bus after a 30-mile journey to Bridge of Don, leading to his re-arrest.

Hendry’s criminal history is extensive, marked by repeated episodes of violence. His relationship with his partner had been deteriorating over time, with reports of him dragging her by the hair, assaulting her during a family funeral, and a particularly frightening incident where he held her down with his hand over her mouth, causing her to fear for her life. The most alarming event involved Hendry retrieving a large knife during a violent confrontation. He gave his partner a horrifying choice—decide who would die—counting down from three before lunging at her, though he ultimately did not make contact.

The woman managed to escape with her child, aided by a compassionate bystander. She sustained injuries to her eyes, wrists, and fingers, injuries that underscored the brutality of Hendry’s actions. Despite the severity of his crimes, Hendry admitted to full responsibility, including assault, police assault, and possession of cocaine. His defense team acknowledged his psychological difficulties, which may have contributed to his violent behavior.

Aberdeen Sheriff Ian Wallace condemned Hendry’s conduct as among the worst domestic violence cases he had seen in court. Sheriff Wallace emphasized the danger Hendry posed, citing his extensive criminal record and violent history. As a result, Hendry was sentenced to four years and six months in prison. Additionally, he was given a two-year license period upon release and a 15-year non-harassment order that prohibits him from approaching his former partner, aiming to protect her from further harm.
