JOGA SINGH FROM GLASGOW CAUGHT PESTERING TEEN ON PAISLEY'S NEILSTON ROAD
In May 2019, a disturbing incident unfolded involving Joga Singh, a man from Glasgow, who targeted a teenage girl in Paisley.Singh, who was married at the time, approached the 17-year-old as she was walking along Neilston Road.
His actions quickly crossed the line from casual conversation to inappropriate and harassing behavior.
Singh asked her personal questions about her bra size and made leering comments about her body, including remarks about her figure and her posterior.
The young girl, feeling increasingly uncomfortable and frightened, decided to run into a nearby shop in an attempt to escape his unwanted attention.
However, Singh did not give up and tracked her down the following day, continuing his inappropriate advances.
On November 7 of the previous year, Singh approached the girl again, this time on the same busy street.
He made more lewd comments and again asked if she would be interested in modeling for him.
He even offered to pay her for hair and makeup services, trying to persuade her to participate in a photo shoot.
The girl, overwhelmed and scared, agreed to meet him later in an effort to avoid further harassment.
Despite her efforts to distance herself, Singh persisted, and his repeated attempts to coerce her into private photos were seen as highly inappropriate and sexualized.
Prosecutor Hazel Emmerson emphasized the severity of Singh’s conduct, stating that his repeated efforts to lure the girl into private settings went far beyond normal social interaction.
She pointed out that asking a stranger, especially a 17-year-old girl, about her bra size and making sexual comments about her body was highly inappropriate and indicative of a sexualized intent.
Singh’s behavior caused significant distress to the young victim, who was alone and vulnerable at the time.
During the court proceedings at Paisley Sheriff Court, Singh admitted to the charges but was spared jail time.
Sheriff Lindsey Kooner acknowledged his guilty plea and the fact that his actions caused distress, but she also noted that his behavior was not deemed sexually motivated enough to warrant inclusion on the Sex Offenders’ Register.
The sheriff highlighted the considerable age difference between Singh and his victim and the fact that they had no prior acquaintance.
Singh, who is also a landlord of rental flats, was visibly emotional as he listened to how his actions had affected his family, including his police officer brother.
He claimed that his conduct was “out of character.” In sentencing, Sheriff Kooner ordered Singh to complete 252 hours of unpaid community service over the course of five months.
She described his actions as entirely ill-judged and reprehensible but emphasized that she was not convinced they indicated a deeper sexual deviance.
The court recognized that Singh understood his misconduct was unacceptable, and he was given a chance to make amends through community service rather than incarceration.
