JEFFERY OVIASOGIE FROM ABERDEEN JAILED FOR RAPE IN SCOTLAND

In September 2022, a disturbing incident unfolded in Aberdeen involving a school support worker named Jeffery Oviasogie, who committed a heinous sexual assault on a woman as she was returning home after a night out.

The assault took place in the early hours of September 26, in the Bon Accord Terrace Gardens area, leaving the victim traumatized and in distress.

Oviasogie, originally from Nigeria, had been residing in the United Kingdom since 2018.

However, his visitor visa had expired six months prior to the attack, raising questions about his legal status at the time of the incident.

Despite this, he was able to carry out the assault before fleeing the scene, leaving the woman crying and curled up on the ground.

His distinctive red baseball cap, which he was wearing during the attack, ultimately led to his identification and arrest.

The victim, who had been out with friends at two bars before heading to the Underground nightclub in Aberdeen, was walking home alone when Oviasogie approached her.

According to prosecutor John McElroy, Oviasogie began talking to her and then followed her as she continued her walk through the city.

The woman soon felt uneasy, and her fears were confirmed when she realized Oviasogie was behind her on a steep path leading into the gardens.

McElroy described the harrowing scene: "Her next memory is of being on her back on a muddy area with him on top of her.

She was screaming for help, but she was unable to move beneath his weight.

Oviasogie told her to 'shut up.'" The school worker then proceeded to rape her, holding her down and ignoring her screams.

The woman’s cries for help were heard by a nearby man, who saw Oviasogie on top of her and recognized him from the distinctive cap he was wearing.

As Oviasogie fled the scene, he was seen running away, still wearing the cap.

Following the attack, the woman remained on the ground, crying and curled into a ball.

Several passersby, including three students, noticed her distress.

One of them alerted the police, who responded swiftly.

About an hour later, officers located Oviasogie on Justice Mill Lane, still wearing the same red cap.

His jeans and trainers were muddy, consistent with the scene of the assault, but he denied any involvement in the incident.

During the court proceedings, Oviasogie pleaded guilty to the charge of rape in June.

Judge John McCormick sentenced him to four years and eight months in prison at the High Court in Glasgow.

The judge also ordered that Oviasogie be monitored for an additional three years following his release.

In his sentencing remarks, Judge McCormick emphasized the severity of the crime, stating, "You assaulted and raped a lone female as she walked home in Aberdeen.

You used force to hold her down and ignored her screams for help." At the time of the attack, Oviasogie was employed as a support worker at Camphill School.

His actions have not only resulted in a lengthy prison sentence but also in his placement on the sex offender register for life, reflecting the serious nature of his crime and the impact on the victim.

His case highlights the importance of vigilance and the devastating consequences of such violent acts in the community of Aberdeen.
