ABERDEEN MAN CONVICTED FOR CONTROLLING AND ABUSIVE BEHAVIOR TOWARDS EX-PARTNER
Jamie Mutch, aged 31, was found guilty of engaging in a course of abusive behavior towards his former partner, which included monitoring her social media activity, repeatedly accusing her of infidelity, name-calling, threats, and unwanted contact.
Over a nine-month relationship from November 2019 to July 2020, Mutch frequently argued with the woman, broke up and reconciled multiple times, and exhibited controlling behavior.
Notably, on February 9, 2020, he approached her aggressively, demanding she unlike another man’s Instagram photo, and when she was finishing her shower, he asked if she had liked a picture, insisting she “go and f***ing unlike this now.” She attempted to reason with him, but he threw his phone at her.
After she left, Mutch apologized and begged her to stay but continued to contact her via calls, emails, and messages, even involving her friends.
His harassment included turning up uninvited at her home, and at one point, leaving nine voicemails threatening to appear at her address.
His behavior was characterized by a sheriff as “nasty, controlling,” and although he did not cause physical harm, his actions caused distress.
The court sentenced Mutch to a two-year supervision order and ordered him to complete a domestic abuse program, along with a five-year non-harassment order, as an alternative to imprisonment.
