JAMIE JONES FROM FAZAKERLEY SENTENCED TO NEARLY TEN YEARS FOR RAPE IN LIVERPOOL
A man residing in Fazakerley has been handed a lengthy prison sentence of nine years and nine months after being convicted of raping a woman. Jamie Jones, aged 29 and living on Montrovia Crescent, was found guilty of two counts of rape following a trial at Liverpool Crown Court. In addition to his prison term, he was subjected to a 12-year Restraining Order and will be required to register as a sex offender for life. The crimes took place on Friday, 15 April 2022, when Jones committed two separate acts of rape against a woman in her twenties at his residence. The victim, who has a lifelong legal right to remain anonymous, provided a heartfelt Victim Impact Statement describing the profound and lasting effects of the assault. She stated, “I am constantly having nightmares about it happening. I then struggle getting back asleep then that impacts on the next day, especially on how I am feeling. When I am on my own, I am constantly thinking about it. I struggle to sleep when I am in the house on my own. I only feel okay when I am with other people.”
She further explained how her sense of safety and normalcy has been irrevocably altered: “Before it happened, I would go out, I wouldn’t look over my shoulder. It has made me change the way I think about things. It has changed my day to day peace. I am always worried and thinking about what might happen.”
Detective Sergeant Bob Sandham, who led the investigation, emphasized the seriousness of the case. He stated, “Jones is a dangerous offender and he now faces a significant prison term. Despite denying the offences and forcing his victim to relive the ordeal through a trial, a jury saw through his lies.”
Sergeant Sandham also praised the victim’s bravery: “I would like to praise the courage and dignity shown by the victim throughout the investigation. Today’s result shows that violence against women and girls will simply not be tolerated and we will work tirelessly to bring perpetrators to justice.”
