MAN JAILED AFTER PLEADING GUILTY TO DOMESTIC OFFENCES

A man from Liverpool has been sentenced to prison on Monday, 27 October, after admitting to multiple domestic offences.

Jordan Smith, aged 29, appeared before Liverpool Crown Court and received a four-year jail term.

Additionally, he was granted a restraining order that will last for ten years, prohibiting him from approaching the victim.

The sentence relates to a series of domestic abuse incidents involving a female victim over a span of four years, from 2019 to 2023.

The victim bravery in reporting the abuse to authorities occurred in April this year.

During earlier court sessions, it was revealed that Smith had physically assaulted her, limited her contact with her family and friends, and banned her from using a mobile phone.

Last month, Smith residing in Fazakerley and previously living in Skelmersdale pleaded guilty to five counts of controlling and coercive behaviour, actual bodily harm, two counts of intentional strangulation, and harassment.

In her victim impact statement read aloud in court, she detailed her suffering: “I suffered many physical injuries throughout the relationship with bruises and swelling all over my body.

I have also got scars on my face, and he also broke my ribs which I still feel discomfort to this day.

“I continue to suffer with my mental health due to his abuse, and due to the trauma Jordan put me through it has given me a lifelong personality disorder which is incurable.

I have been diagnosed with insomnia, and I have severe anxiety which initially kept me housebound when I was able to get free from Jordan.

“I constantly feel vulnerable and intimidated as he used my vulnerability throughout the relationship.

Not seeing my family or friends for two years has had an impact as I lost all bonds with them.

So now I have no friends and struggle to make them.

“I can’t work due to my mental health conditions and suffer everyday with lack of money.

I had no control of my finances.

Jordan had a massive effect on my finances as he spent any money I had and manipulated me into giving him money.

“My quality of life is slowly improving now.

I’m free and I have all my freedom back.

I’m now not a shadow.

Even though I am safe it is still a wobbly journey and it still affects me.

I’m always on a rollercoaster of emotions and struggle each day, but I’m grateful to be alive.” Detective Constable Lara Smith commented: “The victim showed immense bravery and courage to report the abuse she was subjected to over a four-year period which has left her traumatised.

She found her voice to support this prosecution, and now Smith is serving a prison sentence and unable to harm her or others.

“She has been supported throughout the investigation by our team, and hopefully she will in time move forward to a brighter future.” The officer added: "We recognise the profound impact that such abhorrent behaviour has on victims of domestic abuse, and thankfully Smith pleaded guilty.

“I would like to emphasise that there is plenty of help available to anyone who may be suffering domestic abuse of any kind and together with partner agencies, we will do all that we can to support you.

“Domestic abuse can happen to anyone and we have specially trained officers who will listen to you and support you with sensitivity and compassion.

I would also ask everyone to look out for your family members, friends or neighbours that may be suffering, as by contacting us you could be helping someone who is too afraid to help themselves.

Everything you tell us is taken extremely seriously and will be investigated thoroughly.”
